Special Education Advocacy

Advocating for Students with Disabilities, Including Those with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)

At Three Cedars, we are committed to protecting the rights of children with disabilities and ensuring they have access to a quality education that fosters growth and success. With over 8 million children with disabilities in America, our mission is to empower students and their families at the national, state, and local levels. We prioritize supporting marginalized communities, opening doors to opportunities, and fostering meaningful improvements in their lives.

Specialized Support for Children with PDA

Children with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) often face significant challenges in both traditional school settings and sometimes even home-based education. These challenges include burnout, masking behaviors, and navigating rigid systems that may not fully accommodate their needs. At Three Cedars, we provide highly specialized education advocacy tailored specifically for students with PDA, ensuring their unique needs are met with understanding and compassion.

In addition to advocacy, we offer:

- Personalized 1-on-1 PDA support

- Individual coaching for students and families

- Family coaching to develop practical strategies and create adaptable, supportive environments

Our approach empowers families to navigate the complexities of PDA while equipping educators with tools to collaborate effectively. Together, we create pathways for children with PDA to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

A Broader Commitment to Disability Advocacy

At Three Cedars Advocates and Consulting, we firmly believe that the foundation for effective educational programs for children with disabilities is established through a robust collaboration between parents and educators, recognized as equal partners in the process. Our mission is to ensure that every child with disabilities is afforded a meaningful and challenging education, tailored to meet their unique needs and potentials.

We stand resolutely behind individuals with disabilities, their families, and advocates, diligently working to safeguard civil rights enshrined in crucial federal legislation, which includes:

  • Section 1983 of the Civil Rights Act of 1871

  • Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973

  • Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

Through our dedicated efforts, we strive to protect these rights, foster collaborative relationships, and create enduring opportunities for students and their families. Our commitment to advocacy reflects our unwavering belief in the inherent dignity and potential of every individual, ensuring that they receive the educational support they deserve.

Our coaching sessions often address a range of concerns, including:

  • Toileting challenges, such as delays in toilet training or regression.

  • Collaborating with medication prescribers to find suitable solutions.

  • Identifying providers and resources that understand and support PDA.

  • Evaluating effective therapies and interventions for PDA children.

We aim to empower families with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the complexities of PDA with confidence and grace.
